Sweden - Euro Finals 1992

v Denmark (Malmo) 11.6.1992
v France (Malmo) 15.6.1992
v Sweden (Stockholm) 17.6.1992

Our luxury tented accommodation in Malmo - well a cheap tent on a flat bit of grassy ground near the beach!

v Denmark
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the first England match of this tournament changed late on. Yugoslavia were thrown out of the competition due to the conflict in that region. Denmark won a reprieve as runner up in that group and went on to win the tournament. The game finished 0-0 and sadly there was lots of trouble after that game. The main focus was on the beers tents provided near the grounds - that was the last we saw of them. They put on a few other events to keep people occupied, I ventured along to see Ziggy Marley and the Wailers, most people spent 24 hours in the bars or drinking on the beach.

v France

So 2 games in Malmo and no goals. So if was off to Stockholm for a game that would decide who qualfied for the next round.

Even worse was the campsite and tents in Stockholm. The facilities were pretty dire and the actual place about 50 mins out of the city! A total rip off place....

We go 1 up in the crutial last group game - David Platt. But as usual against Scandinavian teams we fall apart and lose 2-1. So eliminated at the group stages and time for the nice long coach journey home! We went with the English FAs official travel company Travel Management. Never again. It was a total rip off and we got a partial refunded upon complaining when we got home.

A v Poland (Poznan) 13.11.1991

We flew to Berlin and had one nights accommodation booked in old East Berlin.

We had a day to stroll round Berlin, we found many statues to STalin etc being demolished following the falling of the wall, but not everyone was happy with this!

Flags and messages of support for the old Communist regim have been put up in protest at the demolition of these statues...............

We get the overnight train to Warsaw, before heading on to Poznan...............

All aboard the train.......................time for another beer

We arrive into a drab looking Poznan

After checking into our hotel and a few more beers its time to head to the ground. A lot of England fans were staying at the Hotel Poznan and we got an escort to the ground with the nice friendly riot police........

We make it into the ground. The bloke infront of us had been used as a testing site for the rubber truncheons, and yes they do hurt!!!

We safely get back to the Hotel and its food time. The England team turned up for a meal at the same place, they soon eat up and leave for the flight back to Luton, we would head back to Berlin for another couple of days.........

The Reichstag (sp) on our whistle stop tour
